Karel Konings obtained his master’s degree in Engineering from KU Leuven. Not feeling fulfilled by this career path, he went on to study acting at the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance. During this period, he also developed a passion for storytelling and filmmaking. In 2018, he made his first short film, Oedipus, followed by Charlie Z in 2020, which premiered at the VERS Film Festival.

In 2022, he made the short film Jagers, which premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival. His latest short, Vogelkooi (Birdcage), won the BeTV Award at BIFFF 2024 and screened at festivals including Fantasia and Imagine. Later that year, he worked as a production coordinator on the documentary Blue Notes & Higher Grounds by IJswater Films.

Alongside his work in film, Karel works as a professional trainer and training actor in Belgium and the Netherlands. His training work focuses mainly on de-escalating aggression, communication, leadership, and social and physical safety, working with professionals from a wide range of sectors. He works with organisations such as De Federatie, Van Campen Consulting, and PuurSuc6.

Currently, he has a new short film in post-production, is developing a feature film, and continues to work as an actor, filmmaker, and trainer.
